These are the "economy" version of a project I saw in Dollhouse Miniatures. I got the wooden plaques on sale at Michael's for one dollar each and mitered one end of each on my new table saw. I glued some non-skid material on the bottoms so didn't have to purchase metal bookends. I try to customize each for the person I'm making them for. For example, the garden scene below has a special sign for my sis-in-law who is tired of cats digging up her garden. The one I made for my other sis-in-law and her husband has a coffee can of dahlia tubers by the bench (for her) and bunnies on the lawn (for him). For my niece in college I made one showing a dorm room (present) and another with a briefcase and two glasses of wine and a baby bottle on the table (future). The example shown here is for another niece who just had a baby boy. Hot chocolate for her and wine for hubby.
